In Spain, the rate of premature births in 2019 was 7.6%, representing approximately 27,000 premature babies, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE). Furthermore, the Spanish Society of Neonatology (SENEO) indicates that, thanks to advances in neonatal care, the neonatal mortality rate in babies born before 32 weeks of gestation has significantly decreased in recent decades, from 60% in the 1970s to around 10% today.

Prematurity refers to birth before 37 weeks of gestation and can have different degrees of severity. Extreme prematurity occurs before 28 weeks of gestation, while very low prematurity occurs between 28 and 32 weeks of gestation. Low prematurity occurs when the baby is born between 32 and 37 weeks of gestation.

Premature Babies should Receive Specialized Medical Care and, in some Cases, Rehabilitation to Prevent or Minimize these Complications.

It is important to note that prematurity can lead to health complications in newborns, such as respiratory difficulties, low birth weight, jaundice, and neurological problems. For this reason, it is essential that premature babies receive specialized medical care and, in some cases, rehabilitation to prevent or minimize these complications.

Rehabilitation is a set of therapeutic interventions that can help premature babies develop motor and cognitive skills to lead a healthy life. These interventions may include physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and other types of specialized therapy, tailored to each baby’s needs.

Among the most common neurological problems in premature babies are intraventricular hemorrhage, periventricular leukomalacia, seizures, developmental delay, and cerebral palsy. All these problems can be avoided or reduced with early treatment and specialized, personalized care. At our neurological rehabilitation clinic, we are committed to your recovery and well-being.

At FIVAN, we offer specialized and personalized care to patients who need to overcome the difficulties that may arise as a result of a birth with low weight or complications in their early development, helping them reach their full potential. +Info
