1. FIVAN Foundation
FIVAN Foundation, classified as a non-profit entity and registered in the Registry of Foundations of the Ministry of Education and Science with the number 1.081, has the following foundational purposes:
- The defense, support, and promotion of all those natural or legal persons, public or private, who are related to the study, treatment, research, education, and social promotion-reintegration of brain damage, including patients and their families, individually or constituted in an associative way.
- The promotion, organization, financing, and development of research programs and projects, taking into consideration not only the care and scientific aspects, but also the social repercussions thereof.
- The information and education of patients, families, health professionals, information media, social agents, and society in general and their scientific, health, social, professional, and family aspects.
- Special interest will be given, in relation to this section, to carrying out activities aimed at preventing traumatic brain damage.
- The promotion of programs and projects of all kinds that may represent an improvement in the healthcare and quality of life of patients and their families.
- Training of Professionals/Caregivers.
Legal information
FIVAN Foundation, with CIF: G-97550016, was established on December 29, 2004, and classified by O.M. of January 14, 2005, being attached to the Protectorate of the Ministry of Education and Science and included among those regulated in article 16 of Law 49/2002.
Registered in the Registry of Foundations of the Ministry of Education and Science, according to the provisions of Law 50/2002, of December 26, on Foundations, in the Regulations of the Registry of Foundations of State Competence, approved by Royal Decree 384/1996, of March 1.
FIVAN Foundation is associated with the Spanish Association of Foundations (declared of public utility in the BOE of November 27, 2003) and belongs to the Sectorial Group of Health Foundations.
Board of Trustees
The government, representation, and administration of the Foundation is entrusted to a Board of Trustees, whose members will exercise their positions as Trustee free of charge and who are obliged to render accounts to the Protectorate.

On January 1, 2007, the IVAN Foundation launched a Hippotherapy program, aimed at children with brain damage, at Hípica Guadassuar (Valencia). This program is associated with the foundational purposes in what concerns the “promotion of programs and projects of all kinds that may represent an improvement in the healthcare and quality of life of patients and their families”, as well as the “promotion, organization, financing, and development of research programs and projects”.- Solidarity Concerts

3. Organization of congresses and training courses
- FIVAN and the Network Center in Biomedical Engineering of the Polytechnic University of Valencia, organized on March 23-24, 2007, a Scientific Conference with the most innovative lines of research in the field of neurorehabilitation.
On Saturday the 24th, a Satellite Course on gait rehabilitation with the Lokomat robot was held, taught by D. Miquel Revert i Sanz and Dr. Stefan Bircher (Hocoma, Switzerland). This Conference had the Scientific Endorsement of the Spanish Society of Neurology, was endorsed by the Spanish Society of Neurorehabilitation and declared of Scientific Health Interest by the Consellería de Sanitat of the Generalitat Valenciana.
- Collaboration agreement with the Polytechnic University of Valencia for the creation of FIVAN Chair (July 2007) with the aim of promoting training and research in the field of neurorehabilitation. The development of its activities is carried out through the Institute of Applications of Information Technologies and Advanced Communications (ITACA), in collaboration with the Higher Technical School of Applied Computing and the Faculty of Computing.

- FIVAN Foundation, the only accredited entity in Spain, provides training in the UK-FIM+FAM and creates the national network for the administration of the scale. This network includes both professionals and entities.

On March 23, 2007, during the First Scientific Conference of the Brain Damage Service of NISA Hospitals, the official presentation of the book “Acquired Brain Damage: A Practical Guide for Families” took place.
The aforementioned book, which has been published by the IVAN Foundation (2007) with the collaboration of the Brain Damage Service of NISA Hospitals, “is born as a response to the concerns, doubts and worries that appear in the environment of the patient with acquired brain damage”.
“The main objective of this guide is to inform in an easy and graphic way, of the situation in which the patient finds himself, giving him at the same time very specific guidelines for action so that he can collaborate daily in the neurorehabilitation treatment”.

- Treatment of spasticity and fatigue in familial spastic paraparesis
- Changes in cortical excitability in Duchene muscular dystrophy
- Evolution of the Multiple Sclerosis disease after treatment with Epigallocatechin Gallate and coconut oil. Catholic University of Valencia.
- Changes in the quality of the endometrium with hyperbaric medicine. CREA Clinic.
- Treatment of toxicity secondary to radiotherapy with a hyperbaric chamber. Hospital la Fe.

- Fundación FIVAN participates in the project entitled Lanpercept through the Marie Curie Initial Training Network belonging to the Seventh Framework Program (7PM) of the European Union with the aim of investigating the ability of humans to make correspondences between the information perceived by sight and language. The project is led by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and experts from Denmark, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom contribute.
