An International Reference in Cognitive Neuroscience
For years, Dr. Juri Kropotov has collaborated with Fundación FIVAN, analyzing the QEEGs (quantitative electroencephalograms) of our patients.
Kropotov is a leading figure in the field of neuroscience: Director of the Laboratory at the Institute of the Human Brain of the Russian Academy of Sciences (St. Petersburg) and co-founder of HBiMED (Switzerland), a leading company in QEEG analysis and clinical neurofeedback.
Clinical Application of QEEG and Neuroscience
In the video we share, Dr. Kropotov explains how to apply the findings of cognitive neuroscience in clinical practice.
Based on the QEEG, it is possible to obtain neuromarkers that identify electrical brain patterns compatible with neuropsychiatric disorders and allow us to personalize treatments with greater precision.
These biomarkers help guide the decision between drugs or neuromodulation techniques, such as tDCS or TMS, improving therapeutic results.
Usefulness in the Diagnosis and Monitoring of Complex Cases
QEEG is an especially useful tool for diagnosis and prognosis in complex patients, as it allows real-time analysis of how the brain processes cognitive and behavioral information.
Among the most relevant applications are cases of:
-
ASD, ADHD, and Asperger’s
-
Depression, OCD, and anxiety
-
Neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s
-
Acquired brain damage, including strokes and traumatic brain injuries
In addition, QEEG allows us to quantify changes in brain plasticity, making it a key tool in monitoring the effectiveness of treatments.
Non-invasive Neuromodulation Guided by Neuroscience
All this information obtained from the QEEG allows us to design non-invasive neuromodulation treatments in a precise and personalized way. At Fundación FIVAN we use two main techniques:
-
Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS)
-
Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS)
Both are applied with the support of the neuronavigator, which allows us to accurately locate the brain areas to be stimulated according to each patient’s profile.
Personalized Treatments with a Scientific Basis
The detailed analysis of the QEEG performed by Dr. Kropotov, together with the multidisciplinary clinical assessment of each case, ensures that our treatments are supported by a solid and up-to-date neuroscientific basis.
This integration between functional diagnosis and therapeutic decision is what differentiates our approach and maximizes results in neurorehabilitation.
