Lokomat Robot
FIVAN has extensive experience in robotic technology applied to gait rehabilitation, as it has the first Lokomat robot in the Valencian Community and the second in Spain.
Rehabilitation
with the Lokomat
The Lokomat is a device used in the rehabilitation of patients with neurological disorders that affect gait, such as spinal cord injuries, brain damage, multiple sclerosis, or strokes. The device consists of a mechanical structure and control software that allows therapists to personalize the treatment and adapt it to the specific needs of each patient.
The patient is placed in a kind of harness to hold them to the robot, which in turn is placed on a treadmill. The robot controls the movements of the patient’s legs and steps through a series of sensors that detect the movement and position of the lower extremities. Therapists can adjust the speed, resistance, and stride length of the robot to provide a personalized treatment that adapts to the individual needs of each patient.
The goal of the Lokomat is to help patients regain gait and leg coordination, as well as improve their balance and ability to walk. Lokomat therapy is a complement to traditional physiotherapy and can help accelerate recovery and improve rehabilitation outcomes in patients with neurological gait disorders.
Benefits of rehabilitation with Lokomat
The Lokomat offers a series of benefits in the neurological and physical rehabilitation process, including:
- Assisted gait: Facilitates the performance of gait movements in patients with motor difficulties, thanks to robotic support and the suspension system that allows unloading body weight.
- Repetition and consistency: The Lokomat allows a large number of steps to be repeated consistently and accurately, which promotes motor learning and recovery of gait function.
- Personalized treatment: The device allows adjusting the speed, weight support and robotic assistance according to the individual needs of each patient, which facilitates a personalized and adapted therapy.
- Stimulation of normal gait patterns: The Lokomat helps to correct and maintain more natural and symmetrical gait patterns, which reduces the appearance of compensations and postural vices.
- Reduction of the therapist’s workload: By providing robotic support, the Lokomat reduces the physical load and effort of the therapist during gait retraining sessions.
- Real-time biofeedback: The Lokomat offers real-time information on the patient’s performance and active participation, which allows constant monitoring and adjustment of the treatment.
- Motivation and commitment: The virtual reality system and biofeedback integrated into the Lokomat can increase the patient’s motivation and commitment in the rehabilitation process.
- Applicability in various conditions: The Lokomat is useful in the rehabilitation of patients with various neurological pathologies, such as strokes, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy.
In general, the Lokomat offers numerous benefits in gait rehabilitation, allowing a more personalized, effective and motivating therapy for patients and professionals.
