Low-intensity Exercise Improves Pain and Mood in Fibromyalgia

At Fundación FIVAN, we have spent many years researching and applying innovative treatments to improve the quality of life of people with Fibromyalgia, a chronic condition that mainly affects women and is characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain, persistent fatigue, sleep disturbances, and emotional disorders such as anxiety or depression.

One of the non-pharmacological approaches that has proven to be most effective is low-intensity physical exercise. In our latest study, published in the prestigious scientific journal International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, we have found that an adapted physical exercise program can have significant positive effects both physically and emotionally.

This program, developed and evaluated by our team of neurorehabilitation professionals, consisted of an 8-week plan based on aerobic exercise combined with coordination work, carried out in a group but with individualized attention. The results were very promising: the women diagnosed with Fibromyalgia who completed the program showed significant improvements in pain perception, functional physical capacity, mood, and overall quality of life.

These findings reinforce the importance of incorporating adapted exercise as a fundamental part of the treatment of Fibromyalgia, and they do so from a personalized perspective based on scientific evidence.
